How to Keep Your Skin Happy This Winter
Nourish your skin barrier with simplicity, seasonality, and whole-food fats.
Winter has a way of testing our skin. Between icy winds, wood heaters, and long stretches indoors, your skin barrier can take a real hit - leaving it dry, flaky, tight, or inflamed.
But you don’t need a dozen products or a complicated routine to restore balance. Just a few simple shifts, rooted in traditional wisdom and real nourishment, can make all the difference.
Here’s how to support your skin barrier naturally this winter.
1. Support the Skin Barrier by Gently Oil Cleansing
The first step in protecting your skin barrier is rethinking how you cleanse. Most modern foaming cleansers can strip away your skin’s natural oils, making it more vulnerable to the elements.
Instead, try oil cleansing, a time-tested method that works with your skin—not against it. Our Vanilla Glow Oil, made with emu oil, tallow and vanilla bean–infused jojoba oil, melts away impurities while replenishing the lipid layer your skin so deeply needs.
Use it nightly: massage a few pumps into dry skin for at least 60 seconds (using one of our new favourite Charcoal Konjac Sponges is the best), then wipe away with a warm, damp cloth . No tightness, just soft, nourished skin.
2. Nourish with Animal Fats
Tallow: the OG skin barrier support.
In winter, your skin loses moisture faster and needs help holding onto it. That’s where animal fats come in. Our Whipped Tallow Balm, made from local, grass-fed & finished suet and organic golden jojoba oil, mirrors the composition of your skin's own oils. It’s rich in bioavailable fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins that support repair, elasticity, and long-lasting hydration.
Apply a small amount to damp skin after cleansing. You can use it on your face, hands, belly, or anywhere that feels weathered.
3. Gently Exfoliate to Renew
Buff, don’t strip.
Dry, flaky skin can build up more quickly in winter, but harsh scrubs only make things worse. For gentle daily exfoliation, we love the Charcoal Konjac Sponge—a soft root-based fibre that sloughs away dead skin without damaging your barrier.
Paired with oil cleansing, it’s a ritual that leaves your skin feeling fresh.
This weekend, enjoy a free konjac sponge with your order using the code FREEKONJAC (limited to 20).
4. Hydrate From Within
Glow starts below the surface.
No balm or oil can replace the foundation of true skin health: hydration and mineral balance. In colder months, it’s easy to forget to drink water or to skimp on nutrient-dense foods.
Try this:
Sip warm bone broth or raw milk daily
Add a pinch of sea salt to your water or a some coconut water for minerals
Focus on warming meals rich in saturated fats—tallow, butter, eggs, and slow cooked meats.
Your skin is a reflection of your internal terrain. Support it from the inside out.
5. Honour the Ritual
Winter is a season of slowness and your skincare can be too.
Caring for your skin in winter doesn’t need to be a chore. It can be a grounding ritual. A few quiet minutes at the end of the day. Warm water, a soft sponge, a nourishing balm. These are small things—but they anchor you.
They remind your nervous system: you’re safe, you’re cared for, you’re home.
